During the reign of King Kamehameha I, the islands of Kauai was one of the last Hawaiian islands to join Kamehameha's Kingdom of Hawaii. The ruler, Kaumualii, resisted Kamehameha for years, surviving two attempts to invade Kauai. Anahola is also the place of an ancient surfing area, Ka-naha-wale, which literally translates to 'easily broken'.
Anahola Beach Park - This lovely beach has good swimming most of the year due to a protective reef offshore. The sandy beach is backed by shade and perfect for children. The nearby reef is perfect for snorkeling and beginning scuba diving.
